You may have probably encountered notifications like:
"Your Air Miles shall expire soon" or "Your Reward (or Bonus) Points will expire in XX days".
Like most consumers, I think this is totally unfair. Retail chains, banks, airlines, and other vendors assumed the right in their sole discretion to dispose of awards issued to their customers. But actually, all these awards are the property of those to whom they were granted.
In reality, manufacturers and suppliers are isolated from consumers, which makes the latter powerless in their ability to flexibly evaluate products and services, especially retail ones. Receiving and using awards that are issued by manufacturers is under friction too. [read more]
